Skylight

August 23, 2017

Olga Starr, Senior Associate and Financial Planner at Skylight’s Columbus Office, recently joined over 1,200 people to represent Skylight Financial Group and the Diversity Chamber of Central Ohio at the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) Business and Leadership Conference in Las Vegas from August 1-4 2017.  Billed as the world’s largest LGBT business development event, the three-day cutting edge educational conference featured panel discussions, development seminars, symposia and special events, with the express purpose of helping LGBT owned businesses or their allies succeed.  The conference gathered together entrepreneurs, corporate decision-makers, affiliate chamber leaders, and government officials from across the country and around the world and celebrated the 15th anniversary of the NGLCC who remain committed to its mission to expand economic opportunities, advancements for LGBT people and diversity and inclusion for LGBT-owned businesses.

Olga, who is a member of Skylight’s LGBT Resource Team and whose practice is a certified LGBT enterprise, co-founded in 2016 a local NGLCC affiliate chamber –  the Diversity Chamber of Central Ohio.  The chamber is made up of community leaders and activists who have come together to empower the LGBTQ+ business community of central Ohio through professional development opportunities, community resources and networking events.

On attending the NGLCC conference, Olga said, “Did you know that there are 1.4 million LGBT-owned businesses in our nation and that they add $1.7 trillion annually to our economy? Business ownership is thriving in the LGBT community and this is why a conference, like the NGLCC’s is so important for learning, sharing and creating opportunities and growth for years to come.”

“It was my first time at the conference and it’s easy to see why it was a total sell-out.  It was an incredible experience.  I met so many amazing people and learned so much from the inspirational speakers,” added Olga.
