Skylight Hosts Toledo Clothing Drive for Aspiring Professionals

Earlier this month, Skylight hosted Toledo’s Spring Cleanout, an annual clothing drive that fills our conference room from wall to wall. Unlike other clothing drives, the donated items consisted of gently wore professional attire to benefit low-income single mothers and aspiring female business leaders.
“We have collected piles of jackets, pants, shoes, purses, other professional accessories that will be heading to charitable organizations across the Toledo area” says operations coordinator Mary Gensler.
The event started a few years back when Skylight decided to partner with members of the Toledo non-profit Mom’s House. Mom’s House is a 5-star childcare center that aids underprivileged single moms looking to graduate from high school, technical school, and/or college. In addition to childcare, the organization also helps mothers set lifetime goals and prepare for the workforce. “These initiatives help to break the cycle of poverty that these young mothers and families face” says Mary. Clothing and other items from the drive will also be going to Sparrow’s Nest, a charity arm of Toledo’s Cherry Street Mission Ministries, an organization that shares a similar vision.
“Supporting these non-profits that are giving mothers a chance to overcome adversity and build rewarding careers is truly inspirational” said Mary. “We are honored to be a part of the Toledo community and look forward to working with these groups in the future!”
