The Skylight Showcase: New Hires of May 2023

Skylight

June 6, 2023

At Skylight, our culture isn't just what we say, it's what we stand for and what makes us who we are. We know that our greatest asset is each other. We work together, celebrate together, serve our clients together - and we welcome together. In May, we were excited to welcome Tanisha, Steve, and Dallas to our team.

Scroll down to learn a little about them!

Tanisha Caravello
Financial Planner | Cleveland

Where are you from?
Eugene, Oregon - a small college town in Oregon.

Why did you choose to work at Skylight Financial Group?
When I first discovered Skylight, I was simply drawn to the convenience of the location. I loved that the website described the culture as "A team in the office and a family at happy hour." I was nervous about starting a new career, so I was looking for a kind, supportive culture where I could learn a lot and become great at what I do. As I started meeting people at Skylight, everyone was so friendly and open and really seemed to love their jobs. It felt like home. And what a great view from the ninth floor!

What causes or community services do you have a passion for?
I love animals and have always wanted to volunteer at the SPCA, though I haven't taken the plunge yet.

My beloved cat, Oscar, disappeared one day (I think our house guest accidentally let him out) and, as much as I tried to find him, I never saw him again. It broke my heart! Since then, I've signed up to receive notifications of lost and found pets in the Cleveland area and I always try to match them up. I've been able to connect several lost pets with their pet-parents, and it always makes me feel good.

What life achievement are you most proud of?
I am most proud of buying my home in cash and avoiding a mortgage. I know it's not for everyone. But for me, it means peace of mind, freedom and options. I originally bought the house when I was still living on the west coast. When my husband and I were unable to find a place we could afford - or that would rent to us with a dog and two cats! - we had our house in Cleveland. It was a pretty desperate time for us, so you could say moving to Cleveland saved us. Since then, we've been able to save the money we would normally spend on a mortgage. It really helped us to get back on our feet and to finally get ahead. It also meant a lot to me because I grew up pretty poor and my parents never saved for retirement or were able to buy a house of their own.

Outside of the office, what do you enjoy doing?
I'm always busy! I spend a lot of time restoring our old house and working in a garden full of wildflowers, lilies and sunflowers. I also cook a lot, and when I have time, I write. I love to listen to audio books (thrillers and murder mysteries, mostly) and podcasts on finance, retirement and investing. I especially love podcasts that feature people's stories of how they have attained, or are working toward, financial freedom. It's so inspiring!

Where is one of your favorite places to travel and why?
I really loved Turkey. It's one of the few places I've been twice (though not for many years). I love the food, the cobblestone streets, the mosques when they're lit up at night and reflected on the water, and the beautiful rugs from Northern Turkey.

Where are you from?
I grew up in Norwood, Ohio and now reside in Mason, Ohio.

Why did you choose to work at Skylight Financial Group?
The alignment with MassMutual and our business partners allows me to provide my clients with quality solutions and products to work towards their financial goals.

What causes or community services do you have a passion for?
My father was a firefighter, as well as having Parkinson's disease later in life, so I support many of the Parkinson's events and fundraisers, as well as take part in the Annual Rev It up for Parkinson's bike ride. I also support school programs, as well as volunteer for fundraisers around the city.

Outside of the office, what do you enjoy doing?
Outside of the office, I enjoy spending my time cycling, golfing, hiking, going to concerts as well as food festivals. I also enjoy checking out new restaurants and trying new experiences. You only live once, right?

What was your first job ever? What did you like about it?
My first job ever was during High school working at a roller-skating rink. It was fun, as a lot my friends hung out there and sometimes, if it wasn't busy, I could take a break and skate for a few minutes with them. It was good experience.

Where is one of your favorite places to travel and why?
I have several favorite places to travel. I enjoy Nashville, TN, Tampa, Fl, the Smokies in Tennessee, and of course, Las Vegas. I would really like the opportunity to travel to Europe and visit England or Italy. Just to experience the history, the people and the architecture would be amazing.

Where are you from?
Miamisburg, Ohio.

Why did you choose to work at Skylight Financial Group?
I had a great opportunity to work with Charles Cooper and Doug Harbaugh that I couldn't pass up. I'm excited to be a servant of the community to the best of my abilities.

What causes or community services do you have a passion for?
I have a passion to help others around me in whatever capacity I can!

If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be?
If I could become an expert in anything, I would be an expert in reading people and understanding what they are thinking.

What was your first job ever? What did you like about it?
My first ever job was in the bag room of NCR Country Club in Dayton, Ohio. I loved the fact that I was surrounded by a lot of wise and successful people and was able to learn from them and share some great conversations!

What is the funniest "dad joke" you know?
My favorite dad joke ever. A priest, a minister and a rabbi walk into a bar......they should have ducked!

Thank you all for sharing. We are thrilled to have you here with us!
